What is a Helpful Village?

How Fairfield Cares Helpful Village Works

Fairfield Cares Helpful Village is an online database of local people in Jefferson County. The Fairfield Cares Helpful Village database connects people who need help with volunteers who want to offer help. Our main focus is helping elders age in place, at home in familiar, comfortable surroundings.

The Fairfield Cares Helpful Village website is the way that Elders and others interact with that database.

Here are the groups of people who make up our Helpful Village...

Members

Members are people who sign up for home care assistance. Elders, people age 50 or older are the primary group that Fairfield Cares Helpful Village aims to help.

We can also provide help for some younger folks too. Say, someone coming home from an operation who might need some non-medical assistance while they recover.

Members also get access to lists of paid home care service providers including nurses and other qualified professionals such as CNAs.

They also get access to the list of non heath care service providers, like plumbers, electricians, etc. See below.

Volunteers

Volunteers are people who provide non-medical assistance to Members, for free.

What assistance can Volunteers provide?

Help with the ordinary tasks of living

  • Shopping
  • Meals
  • Transportation
  • Light housekeeping
  • Respite for home caregivers
  • And much more

What kinds of assistance are Volunteers not able to provide?

Volunteers cannot provide any medical services nor professional nursing that involves medical services.

For this kind of services, see Paid Services Providers, below.

Paid Service Providers

Fairfield Cares Helpful Village is developing a list of local, paid service providers. These include both nursing and home care. They also include other help such as meal delivery, home repair, transportation, electricians, and other paid services.

These are professionals who have been recommended by other Members of the Fairfield Cares Helpful Village, but the Village does not vet them. These professionals are independent service providers. Members make their own arrangements with these providers, hire them, and pay personally for their services. Think of it as a glorified phone book.

This list is available only to Fairfield Cares Helpful Village Members.

Members can recommend and review paid service providers, and other Members can read the reviews. We encourage members who have had good experience with such providers to recommend them here. We are eager to add to the list.

Donors

Donors to Fairfield Cares Helpful Village make it possible to help those who need help.

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, our Village is able to offer memberships at no cost for the first year of operation. We hope to be able to continue to make this offer in the future.
